Where to Labor
You may prefer to do most of your laboring at home. This will give you the freedom of laboring in your own way. There are no restrictions or rules at home. Once you are in active labor, and depending on the distance to the birthing facility, you can decide when to go to the birthing facility.
You may prefer to do most of your laboring at the birthing facility. Keep in mind, you may be restricted to a bed. You may not be able to labor as freely as you would at home. You will have constant fetal monitoring, possibly an IV, and you will not be able to eat.
As your doula, I prefer that you call me when you think you are in labor, even if you don't need me yet. I can answer any questions and make suggestions over the phone. We will decide if I will join you right away, wait for further change, and where we will meet.
Except for extraordinary circumstances, I will remain with you throughout your entire labor, birth, and initial breastfeeding.
